      It depends on the book.
Look online and see how much they are selling for(amazon is best for this.)
Most books which were origanally sold at $20 would probably be around $17 if they were never read, maybe $12 if they were read but are still in perfect condition, $8 dollars if they had some wear and tear, and less than $5 if they aren’t in good condition. Hope this helped!
Oh, and you will usually get more online than in a store.

The absolute MOST you are likely to get is 25% of the cover price–and to get that you’re looking at like new condition and something that is either new (i.e. came out this year) or very rare. If it’s something fairly common or over printed, you might not even be able to sell them (like anything by John Grisham, or romance novels).
A rough price guideline–not all stores will have the same standards, but this’ll give you a ballpark idea.
If they’re hardcover, and don’t meet the criteria above, you’ll do well to get $1-2 per book.
If they’re trade paperbacks or book club editions, expect $0.50-1.00
      mass market pbs $0.25-0.50
The thing to keep in mind is that no used bookstore sells things for much more than half the cover price, and some charge even less. If you take your books that you spent $60 on in, don’t be surprised if they only offer a few dollars. Also, you will get more in trade in than you will in cash (usually twice as much), if the shop you go to does trade credit.

I have extensive book experience. People always think their stuff is worth more than it is.
