I bought a few paperback books for my college classes and the cover is beginning to curl back towards the spine. Is there any way to prevent this or fix it after it has happened?
Whenever you get a new paperback be sure to cover the edges and spine of the book with some clear tape so the cover wont fray.
You cant really fix the spine once it is curled but you can lessen to curl by fixing you’re bookshelf so that the books are not so packed in together. You should be able to easily lift books out without any strain.
Hope this helps.

No. Put it in between other books on a shelf and let it straighten out.
I hate it so much.

You can make a book cover for it just like for hard cover books. Gift wrap paper should work, anything to make the cover thicker. Or get sheet of plastic laminate and cover the book with that. Otherwise, like the suggestion above, keep it pressed between other books.

There really isn`t. Just put some things on top of it and it might straighten out. Papper backs are cheaper, but tear up faster.
