Unfortunately, many people judge a book by their cover. So be sure to have a cover that’ll grab attention and sometimes try to be a little bold. And of course, the blurb. You need to have an interesting blurb and be sure that the cover has stuff like "Truly magnificent" – G.E Times………..you know what I mean.

I guess that’s true – i rarely buy a book by a author I have never read before. If I do its because I have come across the name a lot of times before. Maybe first time authors should just expect low sales until they get a fan base. Not much you can do when books can be so expensive, unless you discount it or something.

I first look for an interesting blurb. If there is no blurb, then it is not likely that I would read it. But I also look at the first few pages of the first chapter to get an idea of the writer’s style and if it suits my taste. If someone is more inclined to read a certain genre (like me), then they are more likely to pick up a book that interests them in that genre. Knowing the writer is a good start too. If I’ve heard of the writer before because my friends have discussed his/her amazing genius works, then that’s a definite "YES! READ ME!" sign for me. But since you are a new writer, well, all I have to say is if you’re lucky, someone very influential can pick up your book, read it, love it and spread the word. I once found a newly released book written by a never-before-heard-of author. I read it. I loved it. I told all of my friends. They read it. They loved it. They told all of their friends…and so on. You get the point– it only takes one person.

Those are all the NORMAL ways I try to find a new book to read. I don’t know if anyone else does it other than me, but I actually sniff out books if all of the NORMAL ways to find a new book don’t work. Literally. I just open it up, take a whiff, and I can get a little idea if I’ll like it or not. But hey. That’s just me. And yes, I am weird.

A really interesting, exciting blurb or a first chapter that leaves on a cliffhanger. It depends what genre it is in, for example a thriller would benefit from a really mysterious cover.
