Dan Brown has awesome mystery/suspense/action books. I really enjoyed "Angels and Demons" which I beleive was even better than "The Da Vinci Code." A & D actually is a bit on the graphic side, at least for me it was kind of gross. I’ve heard that James Patterson is also a really good mystery writer.

Tami Hoag writes excellent murder mysteries. I recommend "Ashes to Ashes", one of my all-time favorites. This is a legal thriller but extremely well done: "Presumed Innocent" by Scott Turow. Also legal thrillers by Steve Martini. The one by Turow has some kinky sex in it but I don’t think the others do. But they all have ‘bite’. See ya around the library…

"Down the Rabbit Hole" by Peter Abrahams. Stephen King said it was one of his all-time favorite books,(and if that recommendation doesn't carry weight with it, none will) and I loved it myself.

Try Sebastien Japrisot, "The Girl in the Car with Glasses and a Gun," "The Sleeping Car Murders," and for a twist, a non-murder mystery that uses the mechanisms of murder mysteries to tell a different kind of tale, "A Very Long Engagement." In the last, five French soldiers are reported killed in action in 1917. In 1919, the fiancee of one of them hears that one or two may have survived. So she must unravel the last days and interrelationships of all five to learn whether her fiancee lives. Made into a film with Audrey Tautou.

Marcia Mueller, or Sue Grafton is more hard boiled.

I also love Anne Perry, and her new series set in WWI is more hard boiled than her Victorian series.

Patricia Cornwell books are pretty graphic. go to Amazon or Barnes and Noble and punch in a book that you enjoy and they will give others that other people have bought...
