I recommend anything by Max Lucado. His words are inspirational. A deeper walk with God is achieved with more than just Bible knowledge. It helps to have personal encouragement 'through the pages of the lives' of other believers.

The book, "What Does the Bible Really Teach?" is an excellent Bible study aid. It takes Bible subjects by topic, presenting the scriptures on each topic to reason on, is written in very easy-to-follow language with beautiful illustrations, and contains three or four questions at the beginning of each chapter for you to think about as you study that chapter, and a box at the end containing the scriptural links to the answers to those questions, so you can retain what you learn much more easily.
