Posted by admin on March 17th, 2010 and filed under christian books | 25 Comments »

Elaine Pagels examines the Book of Revelation and asks questions about its origin and importance. Who wrote the Book of Revelation, when, and why? What other “books of revelation”–Jewish and Christian–were written at the time but left out of the Bible? What accounts for the enduring appeal of this book during the past 2000 years, and even today? Series: Walter H. Capps Center Series [9/2008] [Humanities] [Show ID: 15114]

Revelation is nonsense, to say it politely

      to listen to some …
to listen to some unbelieving idiot on the internet who can’t even spell simple words is the real joke.

      alot of people …
alot of people think they are highly educated. God laughs at our ‘education’

    5. fingersmcoy Says:

      until someone sees …
until someone sees the bible as the absolute truth, they will be confused and continue to argue with each other over what the truth is. Jesus is the son of God. How do I know? The bible says so.

    6. emekonen Says:

      The masorites …
The masorites copied their version from the septuagint in around 800 A.D. Now I can tell you have no idea how to properly cite a source. You cite sources that I may check and verify them as legitimate sources, and you havent produced it. Your claim that the scrolls, number one were completely intact, and number two were masoretic is absurd! The masorites were scribes working between the 7th and 11th centuries. Do not reply unless you are going to cite sources, that I know dont exist. LOL

    7. CloudsofBliss Says:

      I don’t know why …
I don’t know why you believe that the Septuagint is more indental because it is not.

P.S. The Dead Sea Scrolls contained the OT Books, not NT.

      NO. You …

      @emekonen
NO. You are lying. Who are who anyway? A Bible inerrancy person.

Sources? I give you your sources: the internet, reabiable articles, and books on many archeologist.

The the oldest living” Hebrew” copy verison (Dead Sea Scrolls) are more indental to the Masoretic than the Greek Septuagint.

Almost in Cave 4, mostly all the books are contain in the Masoretic, not the Septuagint.

You must be reading bias information from Christian faith.

    9. emekonen Says:

      Please give me your …
Please give me your source. That is completely incorrect. When compared with the dead sea scrolls only complete book, Isaiah, the Septuagint was almost an exact match except for cultural words and such. It was about a 95% match, where the Masoretic texts failed miserably and proved to have changed prophecies directly referring to Christ, which is why many books were removed from their OT as opposed to the Septuagint. I know your lying to me.

      However, …

      @emekonen
However, the Dead Sea Scrolls confirmed that the 35% Masorites are more correct on their books than the 5%Septuagint.

      This is historical facts.

    13. emekonen Says:

      Where are you …
Where are you getting this from? This is historical fact, and even the most liberal professors know this and teach it. Christ was not joking when He told the jews, your house will be left for you desolate. It is fact that the Masorites translated from the septuagint back into hebrew, omitting several books and altering prophecies referring to Christ. Deluded people such as yourself create their own ideas without proper research. I suggest that you do some actual research rather than babble.

    14. devlinudonnelly Says:

      All copies of the …
All copies of the Hebrew Bible were not destroyed in 70CE, many were, but not all. At best that is conjecture. Hebrew Scriptures existed simultaneously with the Septuagint. Also if you compare the Masorite Texts from the 9th Century (most famously the Aleppo Codex) and the Hebrew Scriptures of the Dead Sea Scrolls, you’ll find that only the Book of Esther isn’t in both scriptures. The Masorites codified the existent Hebrew Scriptures they did not re-translate the Septuagint from Greek to Hebrew

Hmm thats odd. Did you know that all the Hebrew scriptures were destroyed with the temple in 70 AD and the only surviving copy of the OT was in Greek, Called the septuagint. The masorite Jews copied it back into Hebrew, changing many passages referring to Christ and removing several books. Also, why didnt the apostles use these names when writing their Gospels? Not once did they ever write either name, so again why do you use them?

    18. QuietBuck Says:

      emekonen: Because …
emekonen: Because that is there names.
