Interesting. You …
Interesting. You know much more about Buddhism than me and I noticed the problem with the non self when talking to those of the Theravada persuasion. Thank you for the additional data.

@LaughingMan0X Well …
@LaughingMan0X Well, I just lost my job and winters can be cold. Now I do not have a fireplace, but 8 bibles, that is a lot of fuel. In case of emergency I could always improvise something. This is potentially an endless source of free energy, since there will always be crazy people who are absolutely sure of themselves. But I live in europe, so I probably have to figure out where those people are over here. These FED comics I would even read first.

Which offer do you mean in particular?
And yes, there is definitely more stuff from crazy people out there, my list is highly incomplete.

I wonder if they also ship internationally. This is just great if you have a fire place, I bet there is much more if you really search for it.

@LaughingMan0X …
@LaughingMan0X which central texts? Theravada or Mahyana texts? Zen or Pali cannon based ? more mythical schools may try to mess with your head like zen, but not all.
As for existential suffering
pain and discontent are things that all living beings have in common. It’s no reason to be morbid or complacent, it’s just a fact. learning how to deal with that fact and learning compassion for others who suffer is the best way to achieve happiness.

1) Which is why I think religion is a bad thing
2) The core idea of Buddhism (as well as much of Indian Philosophy) is the idea that all life is Dukkha (Existential Suffering) and that to correct this one must obtain Moksha (Liberation). In their central texts, the Buddhists have no qualms with deliberately making arguments they know or believe to be false in order to get you on the path to “Moksha;” the really could care less about the truth of the argument.

@LaughingMan0X any …
@LaughingMan0X any philosophy treated like a religion will exhibit those characteristics. I’m no expert, but from my understanding Buddhism is the only religion which allows for the individual to wave the bullshit flag when something seems contradictory. whether this is actually applied is another story….

Problems With Buddhism:
Worship and cult of personality around the Dalai Lama (although that applies more to Tibetan Buddhism), Blatant Sexism, Top-Down Religious Institutions, and the propagation of backwards folk psychology and a mystical worldview.

Part of the problem, of course, with analyzing a lot of “free” banking systems is that governments have often intervened heavily in supposedly “free” systems, usually as a way of financing debt (as was often the case in such examples as the Bank of England, the Bank of the United States, the National Banking System, and the fed). As a result, most of these “free” banking systems have not been free in fact, and have had an inflationary bias.

. By contrast, in the south state owned banks or state-sanctioned monopoly banks were the rule. However, apart from the contraction following the dissolution of the Second Bank of the United States, New England enjoyed a high degree of monetary stability, while the south was subject to massive inflationary cycles.

A case in point would be the Southern states versus New England during the “free banking” era in the US. In most of the states of New England, capital requirements for establishing new banks were fairly low and charters were freely granted…

Secondly, in those places where free banking was actually practiced (under the definition that entry into the banking industry was unrestriced and firms that became insolvent were promptly liquidated), the money and banking system was far more stable than in those areas with high levels of government intervention.

First of all, the banking was not “privately controlled” before the federal reserve. The National Banking System, which was established during the Civil War to provide a market for federal debt, encouraged dramatic inflations (which were generally followed by significant deflations).

the federal reserve …
the federal reserve produces booms and busts? So booms and busts aren’t inherent to capitalism? The federal reserve didn’t come into being because of the lack of reliability in the money supply when the money supply was completely privately controlled? not to defend the fed too much.
as for being america’s lest favorite financial institution, it think that title goes to Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, Citibank, etc.
