I am on a Christmas break and I don’t have any books to read and I’ve found a website before with books to read online, but I can’t find it anymore. Does anybody have any ideas of where I can find some?
Most authors are not willing to let you read their books for free. Respect their right to earn a living.
If the author is OK with you reading for free, then he will post the book on his website. It is not legal for someone to copy a book without the author’s permission and put them on a file sharing site.
Cory Doctorow is one of the few authors that doesn’t mind giving his books away for free.
I’m dieing to read a good book!
I really like Cleopatra’s Daughter, Nefertiti, and the Heretic Queen.
Historical fictions books based on ancient rome, greece, etc or any good historical fiction book you really liked?
The Red Tent – about ancient Mesopatamia circa 2000 BC.
Clan of cave Bear – by Jean Auel, about a young prehistoric woman raised by Neandrathals, and trying to find her own kind (humans). Outstanding.
Check out www.theteenbookstore.com and click on "Historical Fiction" to find a list of historical fiction books, including summaries of the best ones.
Raunchiness/love is a plus the books get a bit boring for me if they’re SO in love with each other but only want to kiss.
Another plus is if it’s a series of books following the characters.
I’ve already read heaps like :
The Black Dagger Brotherhood series.
The Mortal Instruments series.
The Maggie Stiefvater books.
The Sookie Stackhouse series.
Etcetc.
Thanks!
The Midnight Breed series by Lara Adrian. The first book in the series is A Kiss of Midnight:
He watches her from across the crowded dance club, a sensual black-haired stranger who stirs Gabrielle Maxwell’s deepest fantasies. But nothing about this night—or this man—is what it seems. For when Gabrielle witnesses a murder outside the club, reality shifts into something dark and deadly. In that shattering instant she is thrust into a realm she never knew existed—a realm where vampires stalk the shadows and a blood war is set to ignite.
Lucan Thorne despises the violence carried out by his lawless brethren. A vampire himself, Lucan is a Breed warrior, sworn to protect his kind—and the unwitting humans existing alongside them—from the mounting threat of the Rogues. Lucan cannot risk binding himself to a mortal woman, but when Gabrielle is targeted by his enemies, he has no choice but to bring her into the dark underworld he commands.
Here, in the arms of the Breed’s formidable leader, Gabrielle will confront an extraordinary destiny of danger, seduction, and the darkest pleasures of all. . . .
……..
Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series by Laurell K Hamilton. The first book in the series is Guilty Pleasures:
Introducing Anita Blake, vampire hunter extraordinaire. Most people don’t even bat an eye at vampires since they’ve been given equal rights by the Supreme Court. ……..
Mercedes Thompson series by Patricia Briggs. The first book in the series is Moon Called:
Mercy Thompson’s life is not exactly normal. Her next-door neighbor is a werewolf. Her former boss is a gremlin. And she’s fixing a VW bus for a vampire. But then, Mercy isn’t exactly normal herself.
……
Moon Chasers series by Sharie Kohler. The first book in the series is Marked by Moonlight:
Seemingly overnight, Claire Morgan has transformed: the normally mousy schoolteacher is now bold, and her behavior is truly wild. Her eyes gleam silver. Suddenly she’s a self-confident femme fatale with a libido that just won’t quit. After an impulsive makeover, she’s even…dare she say it?…sexy. Is Claire going insane?
Then brutally handsome stranger Gideon March tells her she was bitten by a werewolf, and Claire figures he’s the insane one. Sure, she was attacked by a nasty dog in a back alley, but this guy stalking her says he’s a member of an underground society of lycan hunters — and his mission is to kill her immediately.
When Claire finally realizes she really is a lycan, there’s no turning back — because by now Claire and Gideon are bound by a hungry passion. If they can’t break the curse by the next full moon, Claire’s soul will be lost forever and Gideon will be forced to terminate his prey — a woman dangerously close to devouring him, heart and soul.
I know that in real life you don’t always get all of the answers. So when stories end without telling "whodunit", it’s more realistic, and can even be satisfying if done right. But it seems lately like ALL of the newer mystery books I’ve read end like this. Has anyone else noticed this trend? I feel like it’s kind of a cop out.
Oh I know!
It used to be unique now its getting kind of cliche.
I noticed and I am straying away from them.
The thing is now with all the science’s and evidence they can almost
always catch the real bad guy now. But not a lot of people take that into consideration.
The same ending for every other book is bothering me. :/
Or any country where our the dollar is strong, and is it worth the hassle?
I am wondering why you would want 15,000 copies of anything. Do you realize 5,000 copies sale is enough to get you on a lot of best-seller lists? Selling 1,000 copies of an unknown writer is considered darn good. I am sure you can get some good prices on printing, but I hope you are not getting a lot more than can be sold.
I’m making my little brother read more because I don’t think he reads enough lol. He says that he’s interested in mystery or "scary" books. Any suggestions? Please. He’s going to turn ten, so don’t suggest books the size of Harry Potter books. Thanks.
Nine and ten year old kids are still very much into Goosebumps for the scary aspect.
The Last Apprentice by Joseph Delaney is fantasy with a definite creepy feel. Perfect for that age.
The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart is a good mystery type series with a lot of puzzles that give you something to think about.
Something along the lines of fantasy but with a christian basis. Maybe about angels or something interesting like that? A series of books would even be better.
Please don’t continue saying the bible. I read that every day. I don’t knock your religion, please don’t knock mine. I enjoy reading fantasy but if I can include my religion in that, it would be great. Thanks for your HELP in advance.
The fallen series by Lauren Kate.

I’m a 23 years old Asian girl and I’m looking for book recommendations. There is a certain amount of knowledge that a girl should have before marriage, from everyday life to even sex life.
What books you recommend for me to read?
I want to be a good wife and a best friend for my future husband and I want to increase my knowledge.
Please share your wisdom with me.
The Bible
I’m writing a paper on how books are very sacred within society. After gathering some information I found out that books such as Harry potter and Twilight are being banned within many countries but I think that they’re really important in that after the movies, many people began to read these books. I feel that these books actually encouraged people to read and that’s really important. Does anyone know any statistics or articles that show the increase in reading after these kind of books?
I’m having trouble finding them.
I don’t think that it matters all that much that people start to read if they won’t move on to better things, I can’t say that of Harry Potter, I think it’s a good book.
But Twilight I consider pure crap, I don’t care if it makes a 100 million more people read, they might as well be reading the back of cereal packs, that would be perhaps more intellectual.
Having a book fair with children’s used books and want to have a place to donate those that we don’t sell. Are there any other places – hospitals, schools besides Salvation Army in Northern NJ that would take them?
Try:
The library
Homeless shelters
Good Will
Purple Heart
pediatricians offices
OBGYN offices
the local Health Department or Child Welfare Agency, Social Services
Good luck
