  • What are some good historical fiction books?

I am in 8th grade, and my english teacher is making all of us check out a historical fiction book from the library. I’ve been looking for some, but there aren’t really any interesting ones. Does anyone know any good, interesting historical fiction books? It would help a lot. Thanks! :)

    C.S Forester
    Jack London
    Alexander Kent
Away All Boats by Kenneth Dodson
    Pearl S. Buck
The Scarlet Pimpernel by Baroness Emmuska Orczy

What are some science fiction/fantasy books with strong characters?

I mean strong as in compelling and not physically strong and also action science fiction books like dune, lord of the rings, ender and not something like farenheit 451 or twilight. Thanks.

Actually I find the Tolkien characters to be rather 2 dimensional simply because he was more interested in a story driven tale rather than a character driven one.

Modern fantasy is different, most of it is character driven…Belgarath of the Belgariad/Mallorean series is a strong character for instance. I’ve heard good things about the Fire and Ice cycle by Jordan too – just don’t get too attached to anyone

What books do you recommend for a future history major?

I’m shooting to be a history major. So I want to know which books should I buy from Amazon? I’m trying to read some lenghty classical books? I want to be armed and ready with knowledge for college.

I am a history major- A junior. I’m planning on going to graduate school to get my Phd. My concentration is Medieval History. I agree with the person who said reading classical "novels" won’t arm you for knowledge in that field. However, reading books that are difficult will increase your vocabulary and hone your critical reading and thinking skills.

This is a hard question to answer because I don’t know if you want classical books written by historians or are just looking for classical literature. In High School my mother made me complete a list of 150 great books. I ended up loving most of the books. I suggest something like that or asking a librarian for some book choice advice.

For historians I have read The Histories by Herodotus and The History of the Peloponnesian War by Thucydides. These are ancient historians. Herodotus is considered the "father of history". I have also enjoyed 1066:The Hidden History in the Bayeux Tapestry by Andrew Bridgeford, The Spartans by Paul Cartledge (a Classicist at Oxford University), Thermopylae by Paul Cartledge.

How many ways can you arrange the books on a shelf if the books are grouped by author?

You have 7 different books written by Tom Clancy, 4 different books written by Louis L’Amour, and 5 different books by Isaac Asimov. How many ways can you arrange the books on a shelf if the books are grouped by author?

    Put them in order by:

    alphabet (author first names)
    alphabet (author last names)
    alphabet (book title)
    book height
    book color
    favorite to least favorite
    genre
    publication date

What are some books about teens in high school or any kind of romance novels?

Posted by admin on October 19th, 2010 and filed under books | 4 Comments »

I love to read books about teens in high school facing troubles. Some of these troubles can include friendship, boyfriends, pregnancy, family troubles, things like that. I prefer books from a girls point of view.
Can you please include the author and full title of the book so I can find the books more easily. And if possible, can you include a short summary of the book?
    Thank you soo much!

One author fits the discription to a T!
    Sarah Dessen.
She wrote 9 books so far and almost all of them have romance in them and all deal with problems like family deaths, pregnancy, self confidence, being in control, and more

    I have read the books:
    a rose for melinda
    dear jo
    living dead girl
    the chosen one

i am trying to find similar books. books that have something about someone being kid napped… stuff like that. or books with tragic endings or books with a big twist in them.

How about two teens, kidnapped in separate events, who meet in captivity and (successfully) plot their escape. The book is The Long Way Home, by Florida Town, and it’s on Smashwords. Not sure if it’s on Amazon yet or not.

Do paperback books still have pictures and other stuff like hardcovers do?
If the hardcover does have images inside, will the paperback?
aaah man, if the book is an autobiography and it says it has pictures on the inside, will the paperback have those pictures just like the hardcover does.

Yes. I’ve had paperbacks with the photographs inside, like what you’re talking about.
