What is a good book publishing company for teen books?

Posted by admin on December 31st, 2009 and filed under publishing books | 5 Comments »

I am writing a teen novel, and was wondering if there were any good publishing companies that were especially for teen books? Links please!

The best thing about publishing companies now is that they can target your book to your specific market – teens, adults, and children, too, so whichever company you have decided to go with wouldn’t give you a hard time on doing that.

    I hope I can help.

Is there a charity organization that accepts used books?

Posted by admin on December 31st, 2009 and filed under used books | 10 Comments »

I work at a school and many of the teachers were saying they have more books in their classrooms than they are able to use and I thought if there was a chairty or organization that gives used books to people who need them we could all donate our extra books. Does anyone know of any such organization?

The Red Cross may be accepting book donations, but I don’t know.

Also, your local library should have a Friends of the Library organization that can either sell the books to benefit the library, or incorporate them into the library’s collection.

Or maybe you could organize a booksale to benefit the school?

What are some Christian books you recommend?

Posted by admin on December 31st, 2009 and filed under christian books | 11 Comments »

So I’m going to the library tomorrow. I’m already planning on checking out "Blue Like Jazz" and "The Five Love Languages." Does anyone know of any really interesting or unique Christian books that I will not be able to put down? I don’t care if it’s a novel or a devotional, fiction or non-fiction. I just need some good, interesting summer reads. I’m getting married in a few weeks and I’m 23 years old if that helps! Thank you:-)

I really liked Blue Like Jazz… if you find that you like it, you might want to check out "Searching for God Knows What" by the same author.

Also, The Dream Giver by Bruce Wilkinson
    Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis
Living a Purpose-Full Life: What Happens When You Say Yes to God by Jan Johnson

    Christian Fiction:
The Chronicles of Narnia by CS Lewis
The Bridge by Lisa Tawn Bergren
This Present Darkness by Frank Peretti

What is with everyone asking for free books online?

Posted by admin on December 31st, 2009 and filed under books online | 4 Comments »

It seems to be getting worse and worse. Today is particularly bad with people asking to find books online for free. It is illegal to post copyrighted information on the internet or to download and view it for free. Why don’t they just to the library or pay for the eBook? I can’t imagine their parents turning them down for a trip to the public library instead of the mall.

They don’t want to pay money for one, they’re the generation that grew up not paying for music, except if it is a ring tone. They also are the generation that has stopped paying for movies as well.

What are some good realistic teen fiction books to read for girls?

Posted by admin on December 31st, 2009 and filed under fiction books | 9 Comments »

I really like realistic TEEN fiction books. But I’ve read alot of them, and I want to find a new one I haven’t read. I really love books with ‘girly’ drama and all that stuff. I try to stay away from fantasy, it’s not my favorite genre. Also, I refuse to read Twlight, so please, don’t recommend that.

For you, I would suggest the Clique series by Lisi Harrison and the Pretty Little Liars series by Sara Shepard. Both contain a lot of "teen, girly drama" and the like. Hope I could help. :-)

How do coupon books like Entertainment work?

Posted by admin on December 31st, 2009 and filed under books | 1 Comment »

I see these books for sale by schools as fundraisers. I’m wondering how does the Entertainment company make it’s money.Do companies pay to get their coupon in the book? Does all the revenue come from the sale of the book? Or both?

I’m planning on doing something similar for my organization, but I don’t know if I should charge businesses a fee to offer coupons in my book.

It works the same way newspaper advertising works. Both parties, the advertisers and the readers pay. The advertisers pay the lions share of newspaper production, the 25 or 50 cents you pay for your daily newspaper would not keep them in business very long. Your book should work the same way.

Businesses pay to have their business advertised in the book. The coupon is what is called a "loss leader". The business will take a loss on the initial transaction (discount associated with the coupon) in hopes of generating new business (in hopes that the new customers will come back a 2nd and 3rd time).

The cost to the consumer is nominal and covers the a small portion of the production and delivery costs. The enticement of the sale is that for only $40 you can receive coupons worth $2000. (or something like that)

The big question you need to answer is what to charge the businesses that will advertise in your book. You need to know your coverage area, how many books you’re planning on producing and selling, production and delivery costs, and how much profit you are looking to make for your organization.

You might want to find out what ad space costs in your local newspaper so you can give a comparison to prospective advertisers. Show them the value of a book that local consumers will keep for an entire year versus a newspaper ad that will run once a week for 4 weeks and be used for wrapping fish.
